Estrella Mountain Community College- Installed!

We installed the “Indigenous Perspective” exhibit yesterday at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale (a long drive from our Chandler office, but worth it). The exhibit focuses on the meaning of the word indigenous in the Southwest- a region where many cultures have made their mark. 14 local and regional artists contributed pieces to the exhibit showing their personal ideas about culture, identity, and place.

Featured artists: Manny Burruel, April Edwards, Ruben Galicia, Gennaro Garcia, Maria Kane, Hugo Medina, Frank “Pancho” Mendoza, Martin Moreno, Joe Ray, Carlos Rivas, Mary Ann Rodriguez-Veatch, Cynthia Vidal, Frank Ybarra, and George Yepes.

I want to say a special thank you to Carlos Rivas, Kelly Peterson, and Hugo Medina for helping us install the exhibition and to Manny Burreal for designing and installing a desert landscape to accompany the artwork.

The exhibit is up through December 1st.

Here are a few photos from the installation, photo credit to Kelly Peterson.
